Per Kristian Eide received his MD from Faculty of Medicine, University of Bergen in 1989, and the same year his PhD in Neurophysiology from the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Bergen, Norway. He is a professor of medicine (neurosurgery), Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo and senior consultant neurosurgeon at the Department of Neurosurgery, Oslo University Hospital – Rikshospitalet. His neurosurgical service incorporates cerebrovascular surgery for cerebral aneurysms and vascular malformations, microvascular decompressions for cranial nerve compression syndromes, surgery for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation disorders, and scull base surgery (tumors and vascular). Eide’s research activity spans from clinical studies on neurodegenerative and vascular diseases and CSF disorders to translational studies addressing the role of CSF in brain disease. In particular, he has targeted the role of the glia-neuro-vascular interface, and its role in brain metabolism.
